John Pattison Gibson

Landscapes of Northumberland by the Hexham-born photographer, 1838 – 1912. The exhibition was developed by Izabela Jedrzejczyk in the early 1980s.

Gibson joined the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1883. He produced postcards of his painterly photographs to raise funds for archaeological excavations, to which he was also committed. He was active in encouraging a circle of photographers in North East England, which included Edgar Lee.
