A Film, is the story of a man who, unable to relate to his surroundings, adopts a series of disguises in a futile attempt to overcome his alienation and isolation. Here the setting of a desolate industrial landscape reflect the concerns of much of Amber's work in both film and photography.
Peter Roberts brought A Film to the group. When they saw it, the members of Amber recognised a fellow sensibility and invited him to join. ‘I’m not interested in documentary,’ Peter said. ‘Don’t worry about that,’ Murray told him. The manipulation of still imagery paved the way for the use of still photography in Byker and The Writing in the Sand.
