A Film (1969)

Amber Films, Peter Roberts

Alienation, isolation and desolate industrial landscapes in an animation brought to Amber by Peter Roberts when he joined the collective in 1971.

‘I’m not interested in documentary,’ Roberts said when invited to join. ‘Don’t worry about that,’ Amber founder member Marray Martin told him. The group recognised a fellow sensibility in this story of a man unable to relate to his surroundings and adopting a series of disguises in a futile attempt at dealing with the problem. The manipulation of still imagery paved the way for the use of still photography in Byker, Keeping Time, The Writing in the Sand and other films.
