Father and son working on a community road improvement scheme. Forced to work unpaid on the scheme, all households in the neighbourhood (including some who did not live on this lane) were allocated sections of the road to improve - digging deeper drainage channels along both sides of the lane, using the removed earth to raise the level of the road surface. Workers provided their own tools. January 1999.
