Byker was being "Modernised" and my home was going to be pulled down like lots of others.At the time it was exciting,but when I think back it was a much happier time.People did'nt have much but you felt safe and good friends and neighbours were all around you.It's not like that now sadly,you can't leave your door open to let fresh air in,you don;t know who might walk in !! Kids don't play out much it's to dangerous.We had little back then,but we were much happier,hop scotch,kick the can,knocky 9 doors,french skips,band sticks made from broom shanks and domestos bottles and we were majorettes! a ball in the end of your Mam's old stocking tied around your ankle to jump over !! Happy Times,oh such Happy Times.

By: Alan Spearman - 23rd August 2009 (at 12:11PM)This is the street here My Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles lived I lived in the next street Norfolk Rd. People I remember in this street are My freind Maria Dodds and her Brothers Tony,John and Peter. The Hodgekinson family lived down on the left Matty,John, Margy, Linda (sadly no longer with us) The ford Anglia car by the lampost belonged to Jimmy Spence if I remember correctly. He got it after parting with his Lambretta scooter which had A nice Brown and orange metallic paint job. Jimmy knocked around with John irvine, Peter Cairns, Gordon Rushford,Mickey Gorman, Dave Turnbull, Kenny Hunter all had motor scooter's. They used to all meet up at Bowers cafe opposite the Central station in the mid sixties.
