Weardale works from the northern flank of the valley.
Some people no doubt regard the plant as spoiling the rural charm of the area, but if you enjoy the dynamics of structures, then the plant provides a striking visual signature within the landscape. The tall chimney is certainly popular with military aviators, who use it as a navigational reference point during low-flying exercises.
