Text drawn from Side Gallery archive documentation:

Chris Steele-Perkins is one of the documentary photographers exploring current international issues with whom Side Gallery developed a long term correspondence in the late eighties, showing the work as part of the Now series of small exhibitions. These images of the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip were taken in December 1987 and January 1988. Chris Steele-Perkins is a member of the international photographic agency Magnum.

The gallery has constantly revisited the Palestinian situation over the years. Other work held in the collection includes Peter Fryer’s The Unrecognised Villages and David Lurie’s Struggling to Share the Promised Land.
