Photographer's statement, early 1980s
I live and work in Newcastle upon Tyne and have documenting the urban and industrial landscape of the region.
The city and surrounding area is being gradually altered by redevelopment, as are most urban areas, and the photographs represent an attempt to make a record before the character of the place is changed completely.
I have found there exists a certain preconception regarding the nature of the North-East generally, and I hope the photographs also begin to put that into perspective.
