Sirkka on her Travels
9th January 2013 By: Graeme RigbyIf you're in London between 16th and 20th January, you'll be able to see a selection of Amber member Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen's Byker and Byker Revisited prints at the Business Design Centre, Islington, as part of London Art Fair's Photo 50. If you happen to be there on Wednesday 16th, at 3pm she's on a panel with Photo 50 curator Nick Hackworth and fellow photographers Ian Beesley, Paul Hill and Dorothy Bohm - book your place here.
Meanwhile, If you're in New York between 15th February and 11th May, Sirkka has a solo exhibition at L Parker Stephenson Photographs (764 Madison Avenue - between 65th and 66th). She'll be in New York herself, speaking at the International Center of Photography on 13th February and at the exhibition opening on 14th February. As an appropriate New York-ish link, you can see her at the moment on SideTV, working on her celebrated Girl on a Spacehopper photograph with the legendary New York printer Sid Kaplan - click here. Since that short film was made back in 2009, she's made her own return to the darkroom, printing a host of wonders for the New York exhibition as well as the Byker prints for Photo 50.
