The best coffees and teas on Newcastle's Quayside, a great menu of breakfast delights, sandwiches & bagels, wraps and Side sides, a changing blackboard of daily specials, soups & salads and a truly beautiful selection of homemade cakes & pastries. Anything that can be put in a container can be taken out during the day. If you're eating in, there is small but well-chosen selection of wines and beers and an extraordinary collection of whiskies and spirits. Side Café is about good food in a friendly and informal atmosphere. It's also about the great live music that happens Monday to Thursday (and sometimes on other days too) - jazz, folk, singer songwriters, blues, improv and the unclassifiable. Summer Opening Hours
The café is open 9am till 3pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday. We are also open 6pm till 11pm Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The kitchen is open during all our opening hours EXCEPT Wednesday evening.

Music Nights in the Side Café lounge

There is a constant array of music nights in the beautiful upstairs lounge. Mondays belong to the North East Jazz Collective and feature gigs from some of the finest singers and instrumentalists from the region, along with occasional guests, evenings topped off with a jam session. Music starts around 8.30pm. Tuesdays and Wednesdays see a couple of different traditional music sessions. Thursdays see great bills of singer songwriters, alt folk and blues artists with, once a month, a free improv night called Flipside. There are small cover charges for the Monday and Thursday nights, sessions are free to customers. For more details, contact the café on 0191 261 4224.
