The Writing in the Sand + Letters to Katja
Amber has constantly experimented around the use of still images in film. The Writing in the Sand (1991, 45 mins) is a celebration of a working class day out on a north eastern beach and is constructed almost entirely from Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen's black and white photographs, which she had been taking since her earliest days on Tyneside. Letters to Katja (1994, 57 mins) is a beautiful personal journey back to Finland, exploring her sense of her own roots and her relationship with her daughter.
