Independent Cinema on Tyneside

It's not just Side Cinema...

Tyneside now has three independent cinemas - a healthy situation for film in the North East of England which needs to be encouraged! Come and see our screenings, go and see their screenings - films work best with audiences!

Tyneside Cinema

Currently based in Gateshead Old Town Hall while the Pilgrim Street venue in Newcastle is being given the big Heritage Lottery treatment, Tyneside Cinema not only screens a range of contemporary and classic films, it organises Northern Lights Film Festival and develops a range of education and outreach work. Created by the loose collective of four groups who programmed at Side Cinema for a while (Cineside, Radical Side, The A Side and The Other Side), Star & Shadow is a brand new independent/alternative cinema and music venue, programming a wide range of classic/contemporary/world/engaged/gay and lesbian/artist film.
