Women in the Archive – Photography Project with Sacred Heart High School

During the course of Tom Stoddart’s incredible ‘Extraordinary Women’ exhibition, we worked with Sacred Heart School to explore their own interpretation of what it means to be, or know, an extraordinary women in their own lives.

Using our own archive, we developed a resource that explored extraordinary women both behind the lens, and in front of it; including photographers Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, Graciela Iturbide, and Isabela Jedrzejcyk, and the women in the photographs whose stories are shared through the images. This resource, and the young people’s responses to it, were used by the young people as part of their GCSE coursework and learning assessment objectives.

Students from Year 7 to Year 13 submitted their own photographic responses to the archive, and both the volume and quality were overwhelming. Below are some highlights from the different year groups – we hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
