Building the Tyne Bridge
By: C H Clayton - 8th April 2010 (at 6:34PM)My wife`s late father was a riveter on the bridge, apparently he placed the first and last rivet , and was presented to the king at the opening ceremony , he appears in the photograph on page 31 of the book, Spanning The Tyne, by Stafford M. Linsley, his name was Henry "Joe" Bird. We still have the invitation card and menu from the opening ceremony. He also worked on the Lambeth Bridge, London. .
