Side Cinema Hire

The Amber collective opened Side Cinema in 1979. The seats were rescued from The Wallaw in Blyth and include now rare doubles. The first film screened was Jean Vigo’s L’Atalante, still an Amber favourite. Filmmakers who have presented their work at Side range from Michael Powell to Ken Loach.

You can book the cinema for private screenings.

Here are the general details and the terms regarding hires:
The hire fee is £165 + VAT, which currently works out as a total of £198.

This price includes use of the cinema for up to 4 hours per day, along with a technician/projectionist.

There are 51 seats in the cinema.
We would ask people holding private events to supply their own films of choice on DVD/BluRay.
For private events, these are the only formats we can project.

We ask that you send or drop off DVD/BluRay discs in advance at Side Gallery/Amber Side, so that we can test them on our system before the event.

You are welcome to bring your own snacks & drinks, or arrange catering. All we ask is that you use plastic glasses, cans or paper cups, for health and safety reasons, and clear away any left over food and/or drinks.

Should you decide to book the cinema, please confirm the date and the time period required
(all hires must end by 11.00pm).

To proceed we would need to receive a non-refundable £50 deposit to secure the booking.

You can pay the deposit online at:
Cinema Hire

Payment of the balance must be paid in advance of the event:
