Somewhere Called Home

Steve Conlan

An exploration of the lives of homeless people and travellers around Liverpool in 1985/1986, originally commissioned by Open Eye Gallery.

Working as a picture editor on a Liverpool magazine, Conlan was angered by the bad and clichéd images of homeless people crossing his desk. ‘” Not every homeless person is an alcoholic and certainly not every alcoholic is homeless,” I would repeat day after day. Sickened by it all I left the magazine and started the Homeless Project.’
