A selection of hand-coloured cartoons from LE PETIT JOURNAL POUR RIRE, c 1845

Scarce and little-known examples of work by Nadar (Gaspard Felix Tourmachon), the famous French photographer. Nadar gained a precarious living from such drawings prior to founding LA REVUE COMIQUE in 1849, and turning to full-time photography. All cartoons here are from front covers of the magazines.
